The twelve sections

The upper part of the left side bar is displayed at all times, and gives the table of contents of the entire website. It consists of twelve sections, divided into three parts.

I. THE PROJECT: the website and the printed volume

1. The introduction establishes the nature of the website.
2. A full Table of Contents of the CAR volume is given here, together with the Preface to the volume.
3. The notes offer a standard set of references, keyed like footnotes to the chapters and sections of the book.

II.THE FORUM: bibliography and expanded treatments

4. The bibliography, which is fully annotated, is organically tied to the notes and the rest of the website through a high number of hyperlinks.
5. Excerpts and Summaries give more extensive descriptions of individual titles (summareis) and extensive quotations from the author's work (excerpts), sorted and organized thematically.
6. Reviews offer critical assessments of individual titles or of the overall work of an individual author.
7. Themes are expanded analyses of a given topic relating to the central argument of the Critique.
8. Monographs are multi-page thematic developments, that combine the features of excerpts, reviews and themes to provide a more comprehensive presentation.

III. UTILITIES: indices and work related activities

9. The indices serve the traditional purpose of directing attention to given keywords, thus supplementing the ample use of hyperlinks that are otherwise present in the website.
10. The section on authorship highlights the collaborative nature of the effort. In its final stages, work on the book is progressing as a continuing seminar in which various young colleagues and students cooperate: their contribution is specifically acknowledged here.
11. The data handling section presents a technical description of the formats and the program that produces the website.
12. The archive is reserved for future listing of older versions of the website.

The subsections

Within each section there is a variable number of subsections. The list of these subsections is given in the lower part of the left side bar, highlighted in yellow. This list changes whenever a new section is opened, and serves to navigate within the section. For example, the current page on Contents is linked to section 1. Introduction, and thus the lower part of the left side bar gives the pertinent list of subsections.

Below is a list of the other subsections in the current version. Together with the list of subsections from Section 1.Introduction (in the left sidebar), this constitutes in effect a complete site map.
